My name is Christina Brown. I have birth to my son Zachary Mitchell on March 10, 2008 via emergency c-section. He was taken into surgery within two hours, where the doctors “successfully” replaced all of his intestines and completed the closure. He progressed well and was sent home within 6 weeks of being born. He developed a hernia and had a hernia repair procedure done a few weeks later, which got infected and landed us back in the hospital for a few days. He didn’t seem to develop any further problems and seemed to be progressing well until he suddenly passed away from “complications of gastroschisis” on February 6, 2009 – just a few weeks before his first birthday. A few years later, I learned about Avery’s Angels and I do my best to support the group in honor of Zachary and to be there for those who are going through what I have been through.
