Jennifer GonzalezHello, I am Jennifer Gonzalez. I am a wife and mother of two beautiful boys, ages 5 years and 3 months old. I never knew what gastroschisis was until I went for an ultrasound and soon after our world changed. I was told my son would be born with gastroschisis. I began  to research and learn as much as possible about this. As we got closer to my delivery date I was told that Antonio’s bowels were beginning to dilate. I was induced at 37 weeks and Antonio was born October 13, 2015. He was born with his small intestine, bladder, colon, and stomach out. His closure surgery was on October 16, 2015 and spent 26 days in the NICU before we brought our little man home. Since bringing him home, I knew that there was something else I needed to do. I want to make sure that no one felt like I did during this time, lost, scared, and alone. I decided to volunteer for Avery’s Angels because I want to help make a difference. I don’t think anyone should have to go through this without support. There is always someone here for you. Through support and education we can empower each other to be better for ourselves and our children!
