I’m Caroline and I’m the lucky mom to my beautiful little Robin. When I was 17 weeks pregnant, we found out that our little girl would be born with gastroschisis. I remember feeling like the wind was knocked out of me. Trying to keep myself active, positive, and mentally healthy, I read everything I could on preparing for NICU life and beyond, but I still felt so alone.
Then we received our care package from Avery’s Angels, and it was like a lifeline. There may only be a couple thousand of us each year in the US giving birth to these amazing kids, but we are NOT alone.
Robin was delivered via cesarean December 5th, 2018 at Maine Medical Center. She had all of her abdominal organs outside other than her liver & spleen. She was able to have a primary closure within an hour, and spent 16 days in the NICU. She is now a happy, chunky baby and she is the light of our lives and our whole world.
I’m very grateful to Avery’s Angels for all the knowledge and comfort provided, and could not be more pleased to serve the rest of the gastroschisis tribe as Maine hub leader.
